Our Own Country… by Jodi Daynard

This novel tells the story of Eliza Boylston and her wealthy family during the American Revolution. The novel revolves  around  her and her family’s trails and tragedies during this time.

I was very interested in this novel because I’ve always wondered about the stories behind the history. Such as what the day to day lives were like for the average person. More specifically  what it was like for the women who are left  behind to carry on while the men are at war.

I liked the fact that this story took place during the American Revolution. I have read many historical fiction novels and there seems to be an abundance of novels that take place during the American Civil War and WWII. Few seem to take place during the American War for Independence .
I  enjoyed this book. I found the characters interesting, although I didn’t quite connect with them as I would have liked to.  Also,  I often was confused with who certain characters were and what side of the ‘Cause’ they were on. I loved the story line in the beginning but about half way though started to fizzle.

I do think it is worth a read if you are interested in US history. I may read the other books in the trilogy.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I give this novel a weak 4 stars.
